Did a super fun Vietnamese/Albanian wedding Friday night at the beautiful and luxurious Turnip Rose Grand Newport Plaza. The bride was a Harvard and Johns Hopkins trained Doctor and she was really, really smart and creative. Her side was Vietnamese and the groom was Albanian and his side consisted of the Best Man. They met in Greece while on vacation. (How cool is that?) So, it was pretty much a Vietnamese crowd, most in the health care industry, on a Friday night, after a long week of work for almost all of them...
I have to say, I love "Ethnic" weddings. They are always so interesting. Our bride Nhan, was ALL about fun, so she decided to break some rules and I was the just the guy to help. So, our constantly evolving plan involved actually encouraging the wedding guests to drink (which is totally politically incorrect) and to play fast danceable music throughout the entire night. So, there was no down time musically, from start to finish. Not one soft song the entire night. Cocktail hour, dinner, and all dancing was ALL fast music. How many DJ's get to play hip hop during dinner without getting in trouble? I played a ton of current music (dance floor completely slammed all night long! not to brag, I'm just saying) and then did a really cool, perfectly beat-mixed, techno set for the last half hour that was dedicated to the Groom. We mixed in and out of Euro techno with some mainstream techno and "techno-ish" artists like David Guetta and Daft Punk.
Sometimes it is so fun and refreshing to break all the rules! What an amazing, fun, crazy, unforgettable wedding! Well done Nhan and Christos!
